Nepal Eye Program was officially launched in July 1992 to support the prevention & control of blindness in Nepal and the region. Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology (TIO), previously called as Tilganga Eye Centre, is the implementing body of the Nepal Eye Program, a not-for-profit, community-based organization. With an aim to act as a model for treatment, research, and training, one of the active members of Apex Body for Eye Health, Ministry of Health (MoH), High Level Committee for Eye Health, Ministry of Health, Nepal.

The TIO facility was opened in 1994. Tilganga Eye Hospital (TEH) has been a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Ophthalmology since June 2019. In the early years, working with The Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF), Australia, TIO played a key role to help refine and adapt a practical, safe, and affordable technique of intraocular lens implant for cataract surgery in developing countries.

2023

As the chapter of 2023 concludes, Fateh Bal Hospital has propelled the Ruit Foundation towards the #2030InSight goal, achieving 2372 successful surgeries throughout the year.

2022

Marking the end of 2022, Fateh Bal Eye Hospital has successfully performed 3431 surgeries under the support of the Ruit Foundation

2021

By late 2021, Fateh Bal Eye Hospital and the Ruit Foundation achieved a significant breakthrough with 198 surgeries, advancing the #2030Insight Goal.
