The highest prevalence of blindness was found to be in the Seti and Mahakali Zone due to both Cataract and Trachoma. Therefore, the Government of Nepal and WHO Prevention and Control of Blindness project decided to start blindness prevention and control program in Seti and Mahakali Zone in 1981 and establish Geta Eye Hospital in Geta Village Development Committee (VDC) (which is now in Godawari municipality ) of Kailali District. The hospital became fully operational in November 1982 and now running under the umbrella of Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS) (A society for comprehensive eye care in Nepal). The NNJS is a non-profit making, non-governmental, welfare oriented social organization for comprehensive eye care in Nepal.

Geta Eye Hospital is a service oriented, non-profit making social organization that provides preventative, promotive, curative and rehabilitative eye care services in the Sudurpaschim Province of Nepal. This hospital provides medical and surgical eye care services with community based outreach activities such as Surgical eye camps and screening camps in Province no 7.

Achievements

The Ruit Foundation in collaboration with GEH, has been supporting cataract surgery through outreach program in the far western province and to the poor patient at the base hospital and its secondary hospitals as well as surgical centers since the year 2021.

As the chapter of 2023 concludes, Geta Hospital has propelled the Ruit Foundation towards the #2030InSight goal, achieving 2372 successful surgeries.

2022

Marking the end of 2022, Geta Eye Hospital has successfully performed 3431 surgeries under the support of the Ruit Foundation

2021

By late 2021, Geta Eye Hospital and the Ruit Foundation achieved a significant breakthrough with 198 surgeries, advancing the #2030Insight Goal.
